Intern Q&A – Life at Claire Nash Solicitors
Have you had experience across different areas of law at Claire Nash Solicitors?
Yes. During my placement I have gained exposure to a wide range of practice areas, including:
Divorce and matrimonial matters
Probate
Wills
Lasting Powers of Attorney
Deputyships
Conveyancing
Which area have you enjoyed the most?
Divorce and matrimonial work. Family law is an area I particularly enjoyed studying in my second year of my law degree, and having the opportunity to see this area in practice has been invaluable. It has significantly strengthened my interest in pursuing family law as a career.
Is there anything you haven’t yet experienced that you would like to?
I would like to attend a family court hearing. Family law is an area I have a strong interest in, and observing a hearing would help me better understand a solicitor’s role in court and how it differs from that of a barrister.
Is there anything else you would like to gain experience in?
I would welcome the opportunity to sit in on client meetings relating to Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, and Probate. This would help me develop a fuller understanding of the legal process from start to finish and further develop my communication skills by observing experienced fee earners.
Are there any other areas you would like exposure to?
Yes — I would be interested in:
Attending networking events to develop professional communication skills
Participating in business fairs to understand what it is like to represent Claire Nash Solicitors
Developing presentation skills
What is the value of doing an internship?
An internship allows you to put the skills you have learned into practice and develop the core skills required to work in a law firm. As a second-year law student, I was initially unsure whether becoming a solicitor was the right path for me. My internship at Claire Nash Solicitors helped me confirm that it is, and I am now hoping to apply for training contracts in the future.
Our internships are unpaid, educational placements designed to provide students with insight into the legal profession through observation and supervised experience
